Ontario Electricity Usage Drops 2.5%

4:17pm on Wednesday, November 8, 2006

The Ontario Conservation Bureau has released it annual report for 2006. After taking into consideration that this summer was cooler than that of 2005, the Bureau has concluded that, per capita, residents in Ontario have managed to reduce their electricity usage by 2.5%, for a total of 950 Megawatts in savings. This is still a far cry from the efficiency level that we need to achieve but it does indicate that energy conservation is becoming a higher priority for more and more Ontarians.

The report also estimates that investment in conservation has resulted in the creation of 10 000 new “green” jobs in the province.
