Kyoto Now! Early Morning Rally on Parliament Hill

7:30am on Monday, January 29, 2007

The government is suggesting that Canada can’t meet its Kyoto commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 6% below 1990 levels by 2012. They’re saying it’s too late.

On Monday, January 29, 2007, to greet our lawmakers as they return to the House of Commons, the Ottawa chapter of the Canadian Youth Climate Coalition will be demanding non-partisan political action to achieve Canada’s Kyoto commitments, now!

David Chernushenko, Senior Deputy to the Leader of the Green Party, will be speaking at this event.

What: Small but loud demonstration to show Canadians’ support for Kyoto

Where: Parliament Hill

When: 7:30-9:30AM Monday January 29th, 2007
(speeches start at 8:30AM)
The event will kick-off Canada’s contribution to the Rising to the Climate Challenge week of action. American and Canadian youth are calling for five days of public action and education to jump-start the second semester of the Campus Climate Challenge and put the heat on a new U.S. Congress and a returning Canadian Parliament to begin aggressive treatment of global warming.

January 29th through February 2nd young people will speak to their campus and political leaders about how the decisions they make today will directly affect the world we inherit tomorrow. Over 550 actions worldwide are already planned in conjunction with Energy Action’s Campus Climate Challenge campaign. For more info, see http://climatechallenge.org/woa
