The Green Party of Canada was very pleased to host a forum on the ‘Moral Obligations of Climate Change” on February 16, 2007 in Ottawa, featuring GPC leader Elizabeth May and best-selling US author Bill McKibben, with Dr. Heather Eaton, professor of Theology at St. Pauls University.
This excellent article, which appears in the March 15, 2007 issue of the New York Review of Books was posted on a couple of US websites http://www.tomdispatch.com/index.mhtml?pid=167460, http://www.nybooks.com. The article was reprinted with the kind permission of the editors of that magazine. ( excerpt taken from the GPC website, www.greenparty.ca/en/news/warning-on-warming )
At last year’s public consultation sessions that the Ontario Provincial Government arranged to have around the energy shortfall that is in Ontario’s foreseeable future, the room was filled with ideas, willing participation and much knowledge as to the myths, and the full range of technological and social possibilities that can be brought to bear on this impending crisis. With the release of this latest report, we are again asked as individuals and as nations to confront the challenge before us, a global and local, a personal and humanitarian concern. That these environmental concerns are tied to social, economic and of course political ones is clear. In which direction we each decide to move together is less clear, but perhaps the stuff of significant change.
