Liberals won’t run a candidate against May
The federal Liberals have announced that they won’t run a candidate against Green Party leader Elizabeth May in the riding of Central Nova during the next federal election. Ms. May will be running against Conservative incumbent Peter MacKay.
As someone who grew up in Nova Scotia, I’d like to say that I agree with Elizabeth’s reasons for running in that riding: the Maritimes don’t receive the same attention as Canada’s other regions; and she has to run against an MP that will generate media interest. If she wins or loses, she’ll help remind the media that “eastern Canada” doesn’t start in Ontario and end at the Quebec border.
