Ottawa Centre Green Party Volunteer Night

7:00pm on Thursday, April 19, 2007

What a year it’s been so far! The Green Party is enjoying its highest level of support ever and our leader has recently negotiated a historic “non-compete” election arrangement with the leader of the Liberal Party - clearly demonstrating a new way of practising cooperative politics in this country.

In preparation for the next federal election (which could come at any time!), the Ottawa Centre riding association will hold a volunteer session on Thursday, April 19 at 7 p.m. at the Green Party of Canada head office at 396 Cooper St., Unit 204, in Ottawa.

This is another in an ongoing series of volunteer nights that we are holding roughly every two weeks to prepare for the election. The purpose of this session will be to call people on our contacts list to ask if we can install a sign on their lawn during the election campaign. That way we can hit the ground running as soon as the writ is dropped. We’ll also be updating our contacts list and asking lapsed members to re-join the party (and to donate!). Please bring a cell phone if you have one you are willing to use!

We will also use the volunteer night to discuss preparations for the upcoming Ottawa Centre Electoral District Association Annual General Meeting.

It is very important that we have some advance idea of numbers to expect on Thursday, so please let me know if you plan on attending. You are not obligated to make any long-term volunteer commitment and you don’t have to be a member to help out.

Also, for those interested in research/community outreach work: We need one or two volunteers to help search for opportunities for the Green Party to table at community events over the next couple of months. Please contact me directly at mark.brooks@mail.mcgill.ca if you’re interested in helping out with this very important work.

We also need some volunteers to help install those lawn signs in the first days of the campaign. If you have a car and can commit some time to this important task, please contact our Sign Captain, Guy Talevi, at talevig@sympatico.ca.

Thank you for your continuing support. Let’s make 2007 a breakthough year for the Green Party. Hope to see you on Thursday!
