Hello again,

Time for an update from your local EDA (that’s the association representing the Green Party of Canada in Ottawa Centre)!  There is a lot going on this month, so hold on tight!

The Executive met on Wednesday, May 20 at 7pm.  Here are some of the highlights from the meeting:

Adopt-A-Park 

• We were granted Central Park to clean up for at least two years! That means the Ottawa Centre Greens commit to cleaning this park (located at Bank and Clemow) twice a year: once in the Fall, once in the Spring.
• The Spring clean-up is this Saturday, May 23 from 9-11am.  Come show you care about your community! All materials (gloves, bags) will be provided.

Nomination Race

• The nomination meeting will be held at the McNabb community centre (180 Percy St.) on Monday, June 1st at 7pm.
• Preparations are going well (we now have ballots!).
• We hope to take some time to recognize stellar volunteers from the last campaign. Bring your enthusiasm and your hopes for a Green candidate in Ottawa Centre!

Leadership with Heart

• If you follow this blog, you already know we are planning a great event on June 19th with Elizabeth May and Jen Hunter. Come armed with your ideas to better the political atmosphere in Canada. The event details are listed in a post below. Also, expect to receive an official invite this week!

Summer Canvassing

• We are looking for volunteers to participate is short sessions of canvassing this summer (followed by long sessions on a patio!). The idea is to reach out to the community and identify potential supporters ahead of the next campaign.

Administration

• Unfortunately this month we have lost our Organizing Chair, Philippe. He is moving out of Ottawa for the next year to study. Good luck Phil and thanks for all your hard work!
• If you are interested in filling this position, or any other open position on the executive (fundraising chair and communications chair are also open), please contact us! We are always in need of more volunteers, especially as elections loom.
• We are on track to file our annual return by the end of the month (that’s right, it’s not all balloons and lollipops, there is paperwork too!)
