August 2009 Newsletter
Welcome to the summer edition of the newsletter! Between the increasing likelihood of a fall federal election and the Green Party of Ontario leadership race, the next few months are going to be a lot of fun. Locally we have some events planned to get out in front of the public, and also some internal events like an AGM and campaign planning sessions. As always, thank you for your continued support! — Kevin O’Donnell
Ottawa Pride Parade - Walk With The Green Party
In support of Ottawa’s Capital Pride, the Green Party is organizing an entry in the Pride Parade - and you are invited! We have an entry in the parade and will also be at the Information Fair at City Hall. Join us on August 30th! Read more …
Membership Drive
The summer-long membership drive for the Green Party of Canada is almost at an end. We’re currently 15 members shy of the top spot and the $1000 prize. If you are currently a lapsed member, or aren’t currently a member, please join! The National Office is also providing second and third place prices. If we win the money will be spent locally during Jen Hunter’s next campaign - possibly as early as this fall!
Ontario By-Election
The St. Paul’s Greens recently selected Chris Chopik to represent them in the upcoming Ontario by-election. Chris is a well known Green Business Leader in Toronto and has been an active St. Paul’s community member for 13 years. If you would like to support the local campaign the St. Paul’s Greens have a donation page with instructions available.
Canvassing
This week Jen is heading to the folk festival to work the crowd, shake hands and raise our profile in the community. If you’d like to join her drop me a line and we’ll get a group together. This will be a fun venue to meet people - less intimidating than door-to-door canvassing (which is actually fun - it’s a myth that people are rude) and much more interesting than phone canvassing. Also - with the likelyhood of a fall election it’s great practice for the real deal!
Central Park Cleanup
Fall also means that it’s time to clean up our park again! The spring cleanup was fun and also great exposure for us - we’ve tentatively marked October 3rd as the day to do it again.
Annual General Meeting
The federal electoral riding association needs to have an AGM between now and December so we’ve selected September 22nd in order to avoid any possibility of it happening at the same time as an election (that happened last year!). When the meeting details are finalized we’ll send out another email specifically about the AGM.
- Date: September 22
- Time: 7pm
- Location: To be announced
