Constituency Association AGM – June 2, 2010

The Ottawa Centre Constituency Association (CA) for the Green Party of Ontario is holding an Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at 7:00pm at the Main Public Library, room B125 (120 Metcalfe Street). Our annual meeting is the forum where we renew our activities in Ottawa Centre each year. This year’s meeting will mark the start of the election cycle as we accelerate preparations for the 2011 election and your participation in this process is critical.

Sweden vs. Canada: During the AGM Adrian Mohareb will be making a presentation: “Oh Canada… A comparison between Sweden and Canada on mitigating greenhouse gas emissions”.

Adrian has worked with Technology Early Action Measures, a federal government agency that funded GHG emission reduction technologies at the late development early demonstration stage, where he was a GHG technology officer on measurement and reporting of GHG emission reductions from projects. Prior to becoming an independent consultant, he worked as a policy analyst in international environment policy, focusing on climate change, at Natural Resources Canada. He has a Masters in Environmental Engineering, where he studied mitigating life-cycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the municipal solid waste sector. He has also completed a Masters in Strategic Leadership towards Sustainability at the Blekinge Institute of Technology in Sweden in 2009, where he and his colleagues Kate Murray and Chidi Ogbuagu completed a thesis on “Sustainable Cities – Realizing the Seven Forms of Community Capital.”

Your Input: In addition to electing a new Executive for 2010/2011 the AGM is an opportunity for us to discuss the issues facing the communities within Ottawa Centre as well as Ontario and Canada as a whole.  What issues must we address at the Provincial level? What opportunities exist for the Green Party to bring our broad based perspective to bear?  Bring your best idea forward at the AGM so we can pool our collective wisdom and apply it to the issues in Ottawa Centre.

Your Energy: All of our activities in Ottawa Centre are volunteer driven and, from time to time, every volunteer needs some encouragement! Your presence at the AGM will give an energy boost to the new Executive as we plan canvassing, fundraising and outreach events for the upcoming year. Sometimes it seems political parties only ask for money from supporters – our AGM is a chance to donate your energy and help motivate our volunteers to keep striving for an election win.

Our Future: Every day we makes choices that impact our community, our environment and our future. Taken together those choices form a continuum into the future we create for ourselves. Helping to build the Green Party today will allow voters in 2011 to make a choice for a Green Party candidate that shares their commitment for a sustainable, just and equitable society.

Sincerely,
Kevin O’Donnell
